On this day, 10th December 1948, the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
The UDHR serves as a shared vision for all nations to achieve human rights, and has concurrently formed the basis for many national laws and policies.
Today, the UDHR’s principles of liberty, justice, equality and freedom from torture and slavery are continually promoted by different organisations like the UN, UNESCO, and Amnesty International.
Each Human Rights Day focuses on related issues such as equality, justice, dignity and the role of technology in advancing rights; showing its continued relevance.
Mind you, Article 8 of the UDHR states: “Everyone has the right to an effective remedy by the competent national tribunals for acts violating the fundamental rights granted him by the constitution or by the law."
Simply put; you're allowed to take legal action when your rights are abused.
